Beating the Winter Blues

The days are short, the weather is dreary and there are six inches of snow waiting to be shoveled in your driveway. Before you decide to hibernate under your duvet until springtime arrives, consider making a few small changes to your home to help brighten your mood this winter. We've compiled a few tips to help make your home a cozy haven where you can relax - and dare we say, even enjoy - the snowy season.

1. Add Some Green

Plants are the easiest way to add a breath of fresh air to any room. Spider plants and mother-in-law's tongue are easy to grow, but if you really have a black thumb, try succulents. These little beauties are nearly impossible to neglect and will add a little life to every part of your home.

2. Freshen it Up

Switch up your heavy draperies, throws and pillows for something a little lighter. Fabrics like velvet and satin are perfect for the holiday season, but they can feel stale come January. Try replacing them with lighter-weight cottons in neutrals or pastels to help usher in an early touch of spring.

3. Clear the Clutter

Thanks to Marie Kondo, we've all learned that getting rid of the junk you no longer need makes your home a happier place to be. If you need a burst of positivity this winter, take an afternoon - or even just an hour - to throw away broken or worn out items and donate those that are ready for a new home. Make sure the rest is neatly organized in dressers and bookshelves - we love a floating bookshelf for a modern way to display your favorite treasures.
